Classical Ballet Levels 1-7

Step by step, our classical ballet program helps students to build strength, coordination, technique and artistry. We often describe this as building dancers’ “vocabulary,” increasing the ways in which they express themselves through movement. As they advance, students take longer classes and come to the studio more frequently. ECB provides a caring environment in which students can grow and master an art form that they truly learn to love.

Level 1

Level 1 students learn the barre exercises, focusing on proper placement of the body, the shape of the foot when pointed, the positions of the arms and legs, and the concept of turning the legs out. Students attend 2 days per week.

Level 2

Level 2 students build strength through their work at the barre. The young dancers increase their vocabulary, emphasizing good technique. Students attend 2 days per week.

Level 3

Level 3 students are challenged to combine steps, requiring increased coordination. Dancers begin to learn turns. Students attend 3 classes per week.

Level 4

Level 4 students learn more complicated steps and sequences. Girls prepare for pointe work. Teachers look for increased musicality and artistry. Students attend 3 classes per week.

Level 5

Level 5 students strive to perfect the steps they have learned, and girls begin work on pointe, strengthening their legs and feet. Students attend 4 classes per week.

Level 6&7

Levels 6&7 continue perfecting their technique and building endurance. Working on variations from famous ballets helps students develop their artistry and musicality. Level 6 students attend 4 or 5 days per week. Level 7 students attend 5 or 6 days per week.
